Leave a Legacy of Faith

I finally finished a page for my faith journal! I really like how it turned out and wanted to share!

I decided to make a small book as my faith journal for these challenges.
I finished my cover. It's chipboard covered with paper and other goodies, then covered in Mod Podge to help it endure to the end (tee hee.) Then I added 3 book rings and tied ribbon on the rings to fancy it up!
I'm excited to get started on adding different pages. I plan to use random sizes of pages (square, tag shaped, half circle, etc) and different types of pages (transparent, card stock, chipboard, etc.)along with pictures and memorabilia just added throughout. Should be a fun project.

"With my husband's family visiting from Utah this weekend, and the joy and happiness Iam feeling because we are able to be with them, I decided to have this week's challenge be on families. My exisitance today would be worthless without my family and the love I feel when I am around them and knowing they love me unconditionally. The definition of family in the dictionary was defined as "two or more persons related by blood, marrigae, adoption and residing together". I have my own definition of family: Families are ordained of God. Families uplift each other. Families strengthen one another, support each other, love each other. Think about how you feel when you are around you family. When you are with your family, you are in a "safe" environment, a safe haven from the world. You are loved beyond measure. You can be your true self. Our families are who we want to be with for eternity. I love my family beyond description of words, with every fiber of my being. I am so thankful to my Heavenly Father for sending me to a home with goodly parents, a home where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the center of of the home. I am so grateful Heavenly Father has given me the priviledge to have my own family. We are striving to become an eternal family, one day at a time." - Trudy.

I was attending our Stake Conference Saturday night and something was said about the restored Priesthood. In my mind I knew right then what the challenge this week would be. I challenge you to scrap a page about the Priesthood. What an awesome power to have on the Earth again! What amazing blessings we receive because the Priesthood was restored!

As an example I'll share a page I made a couple of years ago.

"This week Leaving a Legacy of Faith challenge is about personal journaling. Do you keep a journal? Or do you shy away when you hear the word "journal'? I have been keeping a journal since I was 6-7 years old. My dad taught me how to write in a journal when he learned from President Spencer W. Kimball (LDS Prophet). President Kimball counseled and exhorted us to write ina journal. We often use the excuse "I do not live a life that someone would want to read about". President Kimball said, "I promise you that if you will keep your journals and records, they will indeed be a source of great inspiration to your families, to your children, your grandchildren, and others, on through the generations. Each of us is important to those who are near and dear to us-and as our posterity read of our life's experiences, they, too, will come to know and love us. And in that glorious day when our families are together in the eternities, we will already be acquainted." I know this to be true. Several years after my Granddaddy died, we found his journals. After reading them, I felt like I knew him better after he was gone than when he was here. Recently my sister and I read of my Granddaddy's future wife, my Grandmommy, as she took a road trip to New York with family and friends. As the words were being read I felt like I was there with my Grandmommy, having the same experience she was living. My challenge to you is to scrapbook about your experience of writing your personal history. If you haven't started to journal, I challenge you to begin today." - Trudy.

All weekend I have been able to enjoy the LDS General Conference. Listening to our leaders and Prophet inspire, encourage, and guide us I felt that a great challenge this week for us would be - Follow the Prophet. I would like to challenge you to focus on words from any of our wonderful prophets that have touched your heart and given you direction in your life or instructions that we have been given that you have followed.
I found this awesome example on Faith Sisters, an inspirational site for faithbookers. I contacted Wendy and she generously allowed me to share her work with you. I found it so inspiring, I just had to share it with you.






"I decided to use the topic of a talk given by the President of my church, Gordon B. Hinckley. The talk focused on 6 "be's" - be grateful, be smart, be clean, be true, be humble, and be prayerful. Whether you are of my faith or not, the "be's" are a great summary of how to be a good person and live a good life -- good general advice.
The journaling in my album comes straight from President Hinckley's talk. The photos are just random photos I love of my kids. Each page has a simple design, and of course, each page has a bit of machine stitching (my favorite technique). I want the kids to look at this book often, and I want it to last a long time, so I used lots of mod podge so the pages would be protected. When the pages were finished, I couldn't fit the original binding rings back on, so I used some large rings from Junkitz (and my cropodile tool) to bind the album.
We'll put this little album in our church bag for the kids to look at when they're having a hard time holding still and listening during sacrament meeting. :o)"
